My Horses Can Make You Money

This last week, I was asked twice if Six Horse Ranch is a non-profit. It’s not. I spent the first portion of my career working with state-funded non-profits, I’m not knocking them. I’m also not discrediting that perhaps there is opportunity that should be explored there. But I want to be transparent: my businesses exist to make me money.

I was listening to Emma Grede's book Start With Yourself (which is a MUST read) and she makes this observation about starting businesses: men pitch around profitability, women pitch around purpose.

That’s an incredible disadvantage to women. Not that we care, or that we tie our identity and businesses to things we actually are proud of, but that we forget to lead with the entire point of a for-profit business being to make money.

If your job or your business turned into a volunteer position tomorrow, would you still want it, or be able to do it? No income, no money.

If your answer is no, then the purpose is money. Even if you love what you do. Even if you build something around seeing a better way forward or believing in a cause. If you want to live a life that involves any means of engagement in society, you need money.

So to state very plainly, this is how I, and my horse friends, can not only make me money, but I can actually help YOU make money too:
